Youth for Direct Relief Flower Drive
**We are no longer taking orders for 2020 flower drive. The delivery dates for existing orders will be pushed back due to COVID-19. Those who have placed orders will be notified once the new delivery dates have been set. If you would like to learn about what Direct Relief is doing to help the COVID-19 pandemic, please visit this site.**
We invite you to participate in Flowers for Relief, a fundraiser led by Youth for Direct Relief, a group of students committed to helping people in need. For a suggested minimum donation of $75, local students will deliver beautiful bouquets of fresh-cut Gerber daisies to your home, office, or an address of your choice on April 7th and April 21st. Your donation will support Direct Relief’s mission to improve the health and lives of people affected by poverty, disaster, and civil unrest in our community and thousands more throughout the world.
Flowers for Relief is organized and executed by local students attending all of the high schools in the Santa Barbara area. Our fundraising goal for 2020 is $30,000. This is an opportunity for us to make a real difference in the lives of people in need all over the world.
Last year alone, Direct Relief mobilized nearly $1.3 billion (wholesale) worth of medicines and supplies at no charge to its locally-run healthcare partners in 97 countries. Those resources enabled 7,500 safe births in Sub-Saharan Africa through the distribution of midwife kits, access to insulin for 12,600 patients in 25 countries, and immediate support to people affected by Hurricane Dorian in the Bahamas and communities affected by wildfires throughout the globe. This is only some of the work accomplished by this incredible organization. It is a wonderful feeling to know that the more than $26,000 we raised in our flower drive last year helped make these amazing feats happen.
Direct Relief strengthens in-country health systems by providing essential resources like medicines, supplies, and equipment to healthcare providers who meet the needs of the medically underserved. The organization has earned wide recognition from independent charity evaluators, including consistent four-star ratings from Charity Navigator and a 100% fundraising efficiency rating from Forbes magazine.
We can’t reach our goal without your help, so please consider purchasing flower deliveries for yourself and as a gift for someone you care about. It’s a great way to send support to friends, family members, first responders, and teachers, or greetings to hospitals, nursing homes, and schools. The deadline to order is Monday, March 16, 2020 and flowers can be delivered anywhere in-between Goleta and Carpinteria. If you have any questions about this program, please contact Jack Hughes, Youth for Direct Relief student representative, at jdhughes@me.com.
